Well-known Palestinian Journalist and Historian Said Abu Rish left a Generous Legacy to Support the Education of AQU Female Students.

Following a generous endowment that  Late Said Abu Rish established and  gifted to Al-Quds University in honor of his mother Thuraya Abu Rish, many female students especially those from Bethany (a small town to south-east of Jerusalem) will be able to receive a financial support to pursue their education at AQU.

Al-Quds University received the endowed legacy of 600,000$ in an official ceremony to honor Said’s initiative that he decided to take upon his visit to AQU campus in Abu Dis sometime before passing away. As much as he believed in the role of education of Palestinians, His faith that he can still help to achieve this after his life gets to an end, was even stronger.

Born 1935 in Bethany/ Jerusalem, Said who belongs to a well- educated family left home during Nakbah to Beirut. He received his school education in East Jerusalem and Beirut, then he left to USA to learn Journalism. Said got his Bachelor and Masters from Princeton and Chicago Universities.

Abu Rish was a writer whose work shed a valuable light on Palestinian- Israeli Conflict, He produced 11 books, a number of them considered the conflict like Cry Palestine, Children of Bethany, The Forgotten Faithful: the Christians of the Holy Land. Some of his books were translated into several languages.

Moreover, His articles have appeared in The Sunday Times, Observer, Mail on Sunday, Washington Post, Spectator, Liberation, La Vanguardia, LA Times, Jolland-Posten and in Al Quds where he was a columnist for three years.
He dies in his home-town Bethany in August 2012.

May his soul rest in peace..Amin.

The official launching of late S. Abu Rish endowd

Legacy is one of the best ways to ensure that your money will keep helping the University overall process; you may like to help students who can’t afford to get educated, empower the creativity on campus, research, outreach programs, renovations and many many other ways.

Legacies in form of Endowments are an everlasting investment that provide the University with a long-term financial support, and the Donors with their families will be able to relax with a great feeling of confidence that it’s an ongoing funding of issues of their own interest to invest in at Al-Quds University in Jerusalem.

Legacies for AQU are well-handled. A member or more of the family is invited to be involved as partner/s in the machinery of the usage of the Legacy as per willed.

Thank you for your support. If you wish to remember us in your legacy, and would to have more information on how to address it to a special interest of yours at Al-Quds University, You may kindly contact the Friends &Alumni Manager at This email address is being protected from spambots.
